In February we worked with 8 young Burmese women from SAW (Social Action for Women) who had recently fled Myanmar due to continued insecurity and harassment by the military. They are determined to fight for democracy and justice in their country. They see their glass as always half-full!

JOY HOUSE Joy House is a new community center that offers a safe space for Burmese refugees and Thais to meet and build community. . There are classes in art, music, dance, animation, and yoga for young and old. MSppa ran a photo workshop for elders ( anyone over 50 ) in April and what a hoot it was! 9 Burmese and 1 Thai learned about lighting, composition, and story-telling through photography. Mostly we laughed!

Minmahaw Migrant Learning Center Summer Session
This April workshop was an exercise in herding cats! Two sessions with 20+ students in each.... It would not have been possible without Pozo and Miriam, the two film maker who led the workshop. Students used their cell phones to shoot assignments on light, composition, movement, and fashion. Because of security concerns, we will not show their faces.

SOCIAL ACTION FOR WOMEN The Karen Women's Organization has been supporting women on both sides of the border since 1949. They have been especially busy since the 2021 military coup, providing shelter, food, counseling to internally displaced people and refugees. In February, MSppa ran photo workshops for KWO staff in Mae Sot and Mae Sariang.
This workshop at the English School in March of 2020 came to a halt after 3 days when the government shut down all schools, and public events due to Covid 19.
